Teaching Warrior II | Kids Yoga 3+

Warrior II, or in Sanskrit, Virabhadrasana, is favorite among children.

The Warrior II posture develops strength and focus.

Warrior II-when held for several breaths or longer-can help your children/students enhance concentration.

Warrior II is the perfect pose to do for a concentration boost, like before a test.

Make sure your children/students have enough room to stretch their arms wide without bumping into objects or each other.

Begin Warrior II by coming into Star Pose.

Step the feet wide, toes pointed forward, arms extended out at the sides.

Ask your children/students to choose a foot, lift their toes, and spin their heel around 45 degrees.

Demonstrate the heel spin for your children/students.

Encourage your children/students to bend their front knee deeply, sending energy into their back foot.

Ask your children/students to look down at their toes to make sure they can see them. Make sure the children aren’t overextending their bent knee beyond their toes.

Arms still extended long at the sides.

Eyes facing the same direction as the bent knee.

Remind your children/students to engage their muscles and breathe deeply just like strong warriors.

If you would like to add positive self talk in your Warrior II practice, ask your children/students to say “I can be responsible.”

Remember to make yoga & mindfulness time with your children/students your own. Keep it simple and always practice with the children!
